FAQ

When are the drops?

Astro Bakes sells only through drops: limited-time preorders. The next drop's opening date is on the homepage, and if you're on the notify list you'll get an email beforehand.

Each drop has an ordering period and a cap per box. A box that hits its cap sells out even if the drop is still open.

Where do you deliver?

Tokyo's 23 wards only. Sorry, not Yokohama, and not the cities west of the wards, for now.

How much is shipping?

Shipping is included in the price of each box. There is nothing extra to pay on top of the price you see.

How does it arrive?

Each box is packed individually and sent by Japan Post. Every order in a drop ships together on the drop's ship date and normally arrives the next day. The ship date and expected arrival are on the drop page and in your confirmation email.

How long do things keep? Can I freeze them?

The cookies have no preservatives. Keep them in an airtight container somewhere cool and they're at their best within 3 days of delivery. The banana bread keeps about 4 days in the fridge.

Both freeze well: wrap each piece, bag it, and eat within a month. A few minutes in a toaster oven brings a frozen cookie back to almost fresh-baked.

What about allergens?

Each box lists the allergens it contains on its page.

Everything is made in one kitchen with shared equipment that handles wheat, eggs, dairy and walnuts, so traces are possible. If you have a serious allergy, please order with that in mind.

Can I cancel?

Until the drop closes, yes: cancel from your account page at any time for a full refund. Once the drop closes we've started on the ingredients, so orders can't be cancelled.

If something arrives damaged or doesn't arrive at all, that's on us: email and we'll resend or refund, even after the drop has closed.

Is there a limit per person?

Yes. So that as many people as possible get a box, each customer can order up to 5 of each box per drop.

Can I choose a delivery date or time?

The date, no: every order in a drop ships on the same ship date and arrives the next day, and the date is on the drop page. The time, yes: pick a delivery time slot when you order. If you're out, use Japan Post's missed-delivery notice to arrange redelivery.

Can I send it as a gift?

Yes. Ship to anyone at an address within the 23 wards, and add a gift message: we handwrite it on a card and tuck it in. Nothing with prices goes in the box.

Can I pick up?

There's no shop or pickup point; it's delivery only.

What's an "American-style" cookie?

Big and thick, with crisp edges and a soft, almost gooey middle, loaded with chocolate and nuts and baked in small batches. Nothing like the thin, crunchy cookies you usually find in Japan.
